Research & Teaching
With currently five professors and around 40 teaching and research staff, the IPW covers all core areas of political science in both research and teaching. These include, among others:
- Empirical comparative research on democracy and autocracy,
- International comparative research on policy areas and state activity, with a focus on labour market, energy, climate, sustainability, welfare state and environmental policy,
- Analysis of decision-making processes and state activity in the Federal Republic of Germany,
- European integration, international organisations and comparative foreign policy research, particularly with regard to Germany
- international security architecture, security policy and weapons of mass destruction
- history of political ideas and theories
- theories and discourses of justice
- concepts of modern governance
- comparative analysis of political systems in the Global South, particularly in Pacific Asia and Western Europe
- empirical analysis of internal conflicts and disputes in international relations
